A standardized methodology for assessing the operational, electrical, control, protection, communication, thermal, and mechanical condition of Constant Current Regulators (CCRs) and their associated AGL series circuits. Covers input supply, output current and regulation, display and alarms, intensity-step operation, control and communication interfaces, cooling and ventilation, internal cleanliness, electrical connections, protection systems, earthing, cabinet condition, and series-circuit stability and fault indication.
Important control — CCR inspection should never be limited to a simple ON/OFF status check. Input supply, output current, current regulation, intensity-step response, protection, control, communication, thermal condition, earthing, and series-circuit response must all be confirmed. Equally, a series circuit should not be considered healthy merely because the CCR indicates it is energized — stable circuit current, correct load response, absence of abnormal alarms, and appropriate electrical test results must be established before the circuit is classified as serviceable.
Verification of CCR output current against the selected intensity step and applicable operating requirements, confirmed against a healthy input supply and stable current regulation.
Inspection of display panels, meters, indicators, status screens, and operating indications for correct and legible representation of CCR condition.
Inspection of active alarms and abnormal indications, cross-checked against alarm history to identify recurring or unresolved conditions.
Inspection of the CCR cooling arrangement and thermal management system for correct operation and absence of overheating.
Inspection of ventilation openings, ducts, filters, and airflow paths to confirm unobstructed cooling airflow through the cabinet.
Inspection of accessible internal areas for dust, dirt, moisture, oil, insects, and other foreign material that could affect insulation, cooling, or electronics.
Inspection of internal and external electrical connections for looseness, overheating, corrosion, discoloration, and physical damage.
Verification of protective earth continuity and inspection of associated earth conductors, terminals, and bonding points.
Inspection of the cabinet/enclosure for corrosion, deformation, damage, loose panels, damaged locks, and general deterioration.
Inspection of electrical and electronic protection arrangements and verification that protective events generate the appropriate alarm/status indication.
Verification of operation at each applicable intensity step, including correct output response, stability after step change, and correct step selection via the control interface.
Inspection of the overall AGL series circuit for operational stability, availability, and abnormal conditions arising from CCR operation or connected load.
Verification that series-circuit current remains stable under normal operating conditions, with current regulation and load response assessed through the operating range.
Verification of communication status between the CCR and the applicable AGL control/monitoring system, and confirmation that remote operation and status feedback function correctly.
Common inspection parameters, classification scheme, workflow, and records that apply across all 14 Division 07 topics.

Every observation should be assigned an appropriate status:
NormalEquipment/condition satisfactory and operating as expected.
DefectiveAbnormality or defect identified but equipment remains operational or condition does not require immediate withdrawal.
UnserviceableEquipment or system is not available for its intended function.
Immediate Action RequiredCondition presents an operational, electrical, safety, or airside risk requiring immediate escalation/action.

Division 07 contains 14 published topics (Level 2 Technical, periodic). It gives a standardized methodology for assessing the operational, electrical, control, protection, communication, thermal and mechanical condition of Constant Current Regulators (CCRs) and their associated AGL series circuits.
It covers input supply, output current and regulation, display and alarms, intensity-step operation, control and communication interfaces, cooling and ventilation, internal cleanliness, electrical connections, protection systems, earthing, cabinet condition and series-circuit stability.
The CCR checklist includes operating status, input supply, output current, current regulation, display, alarm status and alarm history, intensity steps, control interface, remote operation, communication, cooling, fans, ventilation, internal cleanliness, terminals, contactors, control wiring, protection, earth connection, cabinet condition and water ingress.
The series-circuit checklist includes circuit availability, operating current, current stability, CCR and load response, circuit, earth-fault and open-circuit indications, intermittent fault status, insulation condition, connected load and circuit history.
Every observation is assigned one of four statuses. Normal means the equipment or condition is satisfactory and operating as expected. Defective means an abnormality or defect exists but the equipment remains operational or the condition does not require immediate withdrawal. Unserviceable means the equipment or system is not available for its intended function. Immediate Action Required means the condition presents an operational, electrical, safety or airside risk requiring immediate escalation and action.
No. It does not replace formal electrical testing, insulation-resistance testing, series-circuit loop or continuity testing, earth-fault or insulation diagnostic testing, scheduled preventive maintenance, or engineering investigation of repeated or recurring faults.
Yes. This handbook is an uncontrolled educational reference, not an approved procedure. The airport's approved inspection schedule, SMS procedures, ATC instructions, NOTAM procedures and local aerodrome regulations always take precedence, and the current revision of any official document should be verified before use.
Yes. Each inspection topic has a Download as Word option that produces an uncontrolled Word checklist template (description, a tick-box inspection table and an inspector sign-off block) for personal reference and internal training, to be reviewed and adopted under the user’s own document control.
CCR and series-circuit inspection is where constant-current regulator and series-loop condition awareness begins. Go beyond identifying defects and build the technical knowledge to understand why abnormalities occur, how they affect system serviceability, and when further testing, troubleshooting, maintenance or corrective action is required.
