Design & Engineering Forms
The 25 forms that record how an AGL system is actually engineered — from the first design basis to the last independently-verified calculation. Grouped into Design, Engineering Calculations, and Design Control, this division is the engineering design-control layer of the AGL project documentation system: every form captures a design basis, its inputs, the calculations performed, the resulting output, and a technical verification and approval status.
Where this fits — Division 01 tells the team how the project is run; this division is where the AGL system itself gets designed, calculated, and verified before a single fixture is installed. Every calculation in this division should trace back to a Design Basis captured in DEF-01, and no design is released for construction until it has passed independent verification in DEF-25 — the last gate before Approved-for-Construction status.

How Division 02 Connects
These 25 forms are the engineering paper trail — from the day a design basis is set to the day a design package is stamped Approved for Construction.
Design Lifecycle Flow
The three categories in this division follow the natural sequence of an engineering design:
Related Divisions
- Division 01 — Project Management Forms (scope, schedule, and the project record this design sits inside)
- Division 03 — Procurement & Material Forms (equipment ordered against the selections made here)
- Testing, Inspection & Maintenance Handbooks (the design this division approves gets tested against)
- Failure Database & Asset Lifecycle Guide (feedback loop back into future design assumptions)
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about the 25 Division 02 Design & Engineering forms, how they are grouped, and how they connect to the rest of the library.
Q1What is Division 02 — Design & Engineering Forms in the AGL Engineering Forms & Templates library?
Division 02 is a set of 25 design & engineering forms (DEF-01 to DEF-25) in the AGL Engineering Forms & Templates library. It records how an AGL system is engineered, from the first design basis to the last independently verified calculation, so that every design captures its basis, inputs, calculations, output, and verification and approval status. The forms are grouped into 3 categories: Design, Engineering Calculations and Design Control.
Q2Which forms are included in Design?
Design (10 forms): DEF-01 AGL Design Calculation Sheet, DEF-02 Lighting Layout Review Form, DEF-03 Series Circuit Design Sheet, DEF-04 CCR Selection Sheet, DEF-05 Isolation Transformer Selection Sheet, DEF-06 Cable Selection Sheet, DEF-07 Fixture Selection Sheet, DEF-08 PAPI Selection Sheet, DEF-09 Sign Selection Sheet, DEF-10 Approach Lighting Design Sheet.
Q3Which forms are included in Engineering Calculations?
Engineering Calculations (10 forms): DEF-11 Load Calculation, DEF-12 Voltage Drop Calculation, DEF-13 Cable Sizing, DEF-14 Transformer Loading, DEF-15 CCR Loading, DEF-16 Series Circuit Calculation, DEF-17 Earthing Calculation, DEF-18 Short-Circuit Calculation, DEF-19 Power Consumption Calculation, DEF-20 Energy Consumption Calculation.
Q4Which forms are included in Design Control?
Design Control (5 forms): DEF-21 Design Review Checklist, DEF-22 Drawing Review Form, DEF-23 Design Change Request, DEF-24 Design Approval Record, DEF-25 Design Calculation Verification Form.
Q5What is the difference between the selection sheets and the calculation forms in Division 02?
The selection sheets (DEF-04 to DEF-09) select and document equipment against the design requirements: the CCR, isolation transformer, cable, fixture, PAPI and sign. The calculation forms (DEF-11 to DEF-20) verify the design numerically, covering load, voltage drop, cable sizing, transformer and CCR loading, series circuit, earthing, short circuit, and power and energy consumption. The AGL Design Calculation Sheet (DEF-01) is the master calculation record that the others roll up into.
Q6What is the last gate before an AGL design is released for construction?
Two forms close the design. The Design Approval Record (DEF-24) is the formal evidence that a complete design package has been technically reviewed and approved before release for construction. The Design Calculation Verification Form (DEF-25) is the final, independent check confirming that the calculations have not merely been prepared but independently verified. The page states that no design is released until it has passed DEF-25, the last gate before Approved-for-Construction status. Changes to an approved design are controlled through the Design Change Request (DEF-23).
Q7Can the forms in Division 02 be downloaded and filled in?
Yes. Each form has a Download as Word button that produces an uncontrolled sample Word template with letterhead, a document-control block, ruled entry fields and a three-tier approval table, ready to print or fill on-screen. Checklist-format forms such as Design Review Checklist (DEF-21) download with a checkbox and a verified-by line for each item. The forms can also be searched by keyword or form ID.
Q8How does Division 02 connect to the other divisions?
Division 01 tells the team how the project is run, while Division 02 is where the AGL system itself is designed, calculated and verified before a fixture is installed. Every calculation should trace back to a Design Basis captured in DEF-01. Division 03 then orders equipment against the selections made here, and the design feeds the testing, inspection and maintenance references and, through the failure and lifecycle records, future design assumptions.
SPECIFY IT RIGHT. UNDERSTAND WHY.
Design and engineering forms only work when the person filling them out understands photometric criteria, circuit and load calculations, isolating transformer sizing and the standards behind every specification — not just where to write the number.

- Safety. Work on series circuits, constant current regulators (CCRs), isolating transformers, cables, connectors and control equipment can be fatal. Always apply the aerodrome’s permit-to-work and isolation/LOTO procedures, prove dead, use correctly rated instruments and PPE, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Nothing here authorises work on live equipment or the bypassing of any safety device or interlock.
