THE AGL SPECIALIST

Airfield Ground Lighting Specialist|Photometry|Testing|Compliance

I am an Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) Specialist and AGL Photometry Specialist with over 6 years of experience in airport lighting systems, AGL photometry, testing, technical compliance, project execution, and airport electrical infrastructure. I specialize in understanding AGL systems not only from an equipment and installation perspective, but through their actual field performance, photometric characteristics, testing requirements, and standards compliance.

AGL is not just about making lights work. It is about ensuring the right visual guidance, photometric performance, electrical reliability, and compliance when aircraft operations depend on the system.

AGL Engineering

I work across the complete Airfield Ground Lighting engineering cycle — from initial design through to long-term compliance.

Where I Add Value

AGL Engineering

Understanding system architecture, equipment selection, technical specifications, BOQs and project requirements.

AGL Photometry

Photometric testing, beam alignment, intensity verification, chromaticity evaluation, analysis and compliance reporting.

Electrical Testing

Testing and evaluation of AGL equipment, including isolation transformers, series circuits and associated electrical systems.

Testing & Commissioning

Supporting inspection, testing, commissioning and performance verification of airport lighting systems.

Standards & Compliance

Working with applicable ICAO, FAA, IS and airport-specific technical requirements for AGL systems.

Troubleshooting

Understanding failures through symptoms, measurements, system analysis, root-cause identification and corrective action.

Technical Documentation

BOQs, technical proposals, compliance statements, specifications, test reports, inspection documents and project documentation.

39+ Airports & Airfields

My professional experience includes AGL technical involvement across airports and airfields in North, South, West, East and Northeast India.

Cochin International Airport (CIAL)

AGL testing, photometry, circuit verification, compliance and technical documentation.

Kannur International Airport (KIAL)

AGL technical and commercial coordination, runway/taxiway systems and equipment compliance.

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TIAL)

Airfield signage, AGL cabling and technical documentation support.

Thoothukkudi Airport

Field experience in AGL guard light photometry.

From Manufacturing to Field Engineering

My experience is not limited to airport-site work. I also have experience with the manufacturing and testing side of AGL equipment, particularly isolating transformers — including a testing and quality-assurance program covering electrical testing, insulation resistance, load testing, documentation and compliance verification.

AGL Photometry

AGL photometry has become one of the central areas of my professional work. My methodology is built around three core pillars:

TEST

  • Intensity
  • Beam alignment
  • Chromaticity
  • Electrical performance

ANALYSE

  • Photometric data
  • Performance deviation
  • Failure patterns
  • Compliance status

REPORT

  • Test reports
  • Corrective actions
  • Compliance documentation
Electrical testing tells us whether the equipment is powered. Photometric testing tells us whether the visual guidance system is performing as required.

Understand the Complete System

I don't look at an AGL component in isolation. A fault or performance issue at one point can affect the complete system — understanding this relationship is essential for effective testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and compliance.

Measure Before Assuming

Measure Before Assuming

Use test data instead of assumptions.

Understand Before Replacing

Find the failure mechanism before changing components.

Test the Complete System

Do not evaluate a component without considering its system environment.

Document the Evidence

Measurements, reports, photographs and records are part of engineering.

Learn From Field Problems

Every failure can become a future troubleshooting reference.

Share Practical Knowledge

Technical knowledge becomes more valuable when it can be understood and applied by others.

Building AGL Knowledge

My work is not limited to projects. I am building a structured technical knowledge platform around Airfield Ground Lighting — AGL Technical Articles, Presentations, a Visual Encyclopedia, a Troubleshooting Atlas, Standards resources, Calculators and Training content — to make complex AGL engineering topics easier to understand and apply. My article pipeline currently runs 33+ technical resources deep.

Building a Complete AGL Knowledge Ecosystem

My long-term objective is to create a structured and continuously expanding knowledge platform covering the complete AGL engineering lifecycle — connecting my professional experience with the wider AGL Knowledge Hub.

Learn→ Understand→ Design→ Build→ Test→ Operate→ Solve→ Improve→ Assess→ Connect

I don't want to be known only for working with airport lights.

I want to build a complete engineering knowledge system around Airfield Ground Lighting.

From the smallest connector and isolating transformer to the complete runway lighting system, from manufacturing and testing to airport operations and photometry, my goal is to understand, document and share the engineering behind safe and reliable AGL systems.
